Advent

The liturgical calendar has developed over the course of the Church’s history and organizes the year into seasons that rehearse the Gospel story and invite us to live within it. Advent marks the beginning of the Christian year, as the Church begins once more to join in with the people of God waiting for Christ to appear and to make all things new. During Advent, the liturgical color is purple, signifying the royal nature of the one for whom we wait. While Advent sometimes seems like a time that we look backward to celebrate the birth of Christ, it is more truly a time that we look forward to the time when he will appear again and reign as our King.
